Glass, Plastic & Metal Containers
Put glass food and beverage containers, plastic containers #1 - #7, aseptics and all metal food and beverage containers in your recycling bin. There is no need to sort or separate these items.

Please rinse food and beverage containers
and crush or smash plastic containers.


Mixed Paper
Place all acceptable paper items in your paper recycling bin. Please refer to the list below for a complete list of acceptable items.

Detailed Recycling Information

Glass
Glass items include all glass food and beverage jars and bottles. Remove metal lids and place separately in bin.

Plastics
Plastic items include plastic containers labeled #1 - #7 only.

Cans
Acceptable cans include all metal food and beverage cans made of aluminum, tin, steel and bi-metal, such as soda and tuna cans.

Aseptics
The term aseptics refers to milk cartons, juice boxes and juice bags.

Plastic Bags
Recycle grocery, produce, dry cleaning, shopping, newspaper and bread bags. Please bundle all bags together inside a tied plastic bag (preferably a clear bag or labeled as recycling).

Newspapers
Newspapers should be placed in paper bags or bundled and tied with string and put next to your recycling bin.

Corrugated Cardboard
Please flatten cardboard and place in piles next to your recycling bin. Piles should be no larger than 3 feet by 3 feet. We prefer that you tie large quantities for ease of handling.

Polystyrene
Includes StyrofoamTM packing blocks, egg cartons and "take-out" containers (emptied and rinsed). Place large foam blocks in a secured, clear plastic bag, and place next to recycling bins.

Scrap Metal
Include clean aluminum foil and pie pans, metal lids from glass bottles and jars, metal pots and pans, and aerosol cans (emptied of gas and liquid).

Household Batteries
To recycle household batteries contact the Countywide Household Hazardous Waste Program at (408) 299-7300 for information.

Used Motor Oil
Place used motor oil in one-gallon plastic containers with tight fitting, screw top lids. (Milk and water jugs with pop-on lids are acceptable; lids must be taped securely). You may place up to two one-gallon containers next to your recycling bin for pickup.

Used Oil Filters
Place fully drained filters in a sealed, leak-proof, plastic bag and place curbside next to your recycling bins.
